Chiropractors are required to adhere to strict and extensive educational requirements and standards to become registered health professionals in Australia. Australian chiropractors are five-year university trained, and are government registered and government regulated health professionals. To become a registered chiropractor in Australia you must have studied an accredited 5-year Chiropractic program conducted at a University within Australia or have completed an accredited program overseas that satisfies the requirements set by the Australian Chiropractic Regulating authority.

A chiropractic adjustment is the skill of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is fixated, “locked up”, or not moving properly. This adds motion to the joint, helping the joints to gradually regain more normal motion and function. The purpose of this safe and natural procedure is to permit improved spinal function, improved nervous system function, and improved health.

There are many ways to adjust the spine. Usually, the chiropractor’s hands or a specially designed instrument delivers a brief and highly-accurate thrust. Some adjusting methods are quick, whereas others require a slow, constant or indirect pressure.

At Cottontree Chiropractic our Chiropractors use a range of techniques from low force to manual adjusting.  Our techniques are safe, gentle and effective. We tailor our treatment to the individual which allows us to treat paediatric patients right through to the elderly.

Our practitioners take a thorough history to determine if patients are likely to respond well to treatment. We treat paediatric patients through to the elderly, adjusting our techniques to suit the patient. Our Chiropractors at Cottontree

Chiropractic have trained further in paediatrics and are continuously studying to enhance their knowledge and improve their treatment options and care for all their patients. Like all healthcare, chiropractic is generally considered to be safe, however occasionally adverse reactions or outcomes are experienced.

Your Chiropractor will take an initial history and perform an examination, they will determine from this if further imaging is required to determine to give you the best treatment.  Your Chiropractor can refer you for spinal X-rays and if necessary, can organise for other imaging.  If you have any X-rays, CT scans or MRI’s we encourage you to bring them to your appointment.

Chiropractors are a primary healthcare practitioner, therefore a referral is not necessary in most situations.

Some patients are eligible for an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC).  This program requires a referral from your GP to the Chiropractor.  This entitles the patient a maximum of 5 visits per calendar year subsidised by Medicare.

DVA (Department of Veteran’s Affairs) Patients are also required to have a referral from their GP.
